Pro Life vs Pro Choice

There is no more devisive word in our society today than, Abortion. The title itself would have made, many out there uncomfortable. So, it is another instance of battle between prolife and prochoice? In simple words, when you say you are a pro–choice you tell people that you believe, it is okay for them to have the ability to choose abortion as an option for an unplanned pregnancy, even when you would not opt it for yourself. Eliminate the Crisis, Not the Child (Prolife)

What do you think of when you hear babies? Little fingers and toes, happy gurgles and giggles. But we have been sold the story that most innocent members of our society are stealing our freedom. Mothers everywhere have been told to turn on to the children within their wombs and have been guided to take their lives. There is a lot of talk about abortion today. My body, my choice and shout your abortion have become cards for the pro-choice movement. This movement has created a narrative in which infants are the thieves of our futures and should be done away when inconvenient.

Pro-choice have cuddled us into hearing the word abortion and not really listening to what it means. They say it is a fetus so we can think of it as something other than a baby. The life of a baby begins at fertilization. The heart beat of a child begins at three weeks. Its DNA has defined its eye color, height, every inch of its appearance. They might claim that it does not appear nothing like baby, but it is one.

More than sixty million American children have been aborted since 1973.  As a woman of 2021, you do get to choose what happens to your body. However, you do not get to choose what happens with someone else with a separate biological identity of its own. Pregnancy is not hard enough to warrant the life of your own child. Imagine not being able to speak as the decision of your life/death was decided without your consent. Moreover, babies do feel pain at the latest by twenty weeks, but some studies show as early as twelve weeks.

Being pro-life is not anti-women. Women are told to choose their personal desires over their unborn children to lead a life constantly pursuing pleasure after pleasure as they constantly grow more and more fleeting to live in the perpetual present with no meaning in sight. There can be no worse tragedy for a mother to sacrifice the inestimable value of motherhood for empty freedom. A pro-choice woman deceives the role that she was born to play. Of course there are times that having a baby is indeed hard, but the pro-life movement tells you that you should not end a life because of it.

There are so many resources that help women through pregnancy and single motherhood. There are so many families waiting to adopt one, if keeping the baby is not right for you. If we use any reasoning to kill an adult, it would be murder. For a child, labelled as fetus, abortion, however, is just a fancy name for murder. Sacrificing a baby on the altar of convenience can never be justifiable. Pro-Life people march ahead proving that it is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.

 

Her Body. Your Laws? (Prochoice)

The emphasis must not be on the right to an abortion but the right to privacy and reproductive control.

This is a quote from Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the second female justice of the Supreme Court. This quote explains that women should have control and privacy in the choice of an abortion. Foremost, you need to know certain definition. Abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy and that in clinic abortions are safe and effective. The highlight of this belief system is that women should be able to make a choice for themselves.

There is a difference between a baby and a fetus. A fetus is an offspring which is eight weeks old or less. A fetus relies completely on their mother. The first trimester of the pregnancy is when more than sixty percent of all abortions happen. The first trimester is twelve weeks long. A fetus is thought to have the same mental capacity as a tulip. A baby however has much more development in the brain.

Factually, only about thirty percent of the abortions happen after the first trimester and this is only when it is of absolute necessity. So NO, Abortion is not equivalent to murdering. Second of all, as to why women should have the choice of an Abortion is that – if Abortions are made illegal, so many unsafe ones will happen. It is assumed by Pro-Life people that making abortions illegal is going to stop them from happening altogether. However, as per the World Health Organization almost all unsafe abortions happen in developing countries that do not allow them.

Prior to 1973 (when abortion was not legalized) it was estimated that approximately two million abortions happen per year, as per the Guttmacher Institute. Evidently, if made illegal, they will still happen, just in much worse circumstances. Women do not get abortions for fun, they do so when it is the only way out. Lastly, why pro-choice people believe in is that the choice should be there for anyone regardless of their situation. While women get abortions for so many different reasons like, body unable to handle, not ready for children or do not want children, a victim of sexual assault, the list goes on and on. Everyone must have the freedom to decide what they want to do in their life.

In order to come close to equality, only allowing some women control over their bodies because their situation is poor, and not others, is definitely not justified. A man, or whosoever should not tell a woman what she can and cannot do to her body. Whether it is rape, dangers, some other mental illness, not being financially stable, doing everything you can to not get pregnant but you still do, not wanting children, not being ready for it, or whatever, a woman should be able to choose. Prochoice means you believe it is the right of the women to make a choice. You might not like abortions, however you do not want women to get rid of the right to choose to make one.

Prolife vs Prochoice : Your Take Away

Now that you know what it is to identify as a prolife or prochoice, you may ponder as to which side you are on. Although the statistics show that a total of thirty-nine percent of population of America does not strictly identify as either prolife or prochoice.

Abortion is fundamentally a breakdown in community. In our moment of greatest need for real compassionate empowering human relationship, there is a void of connection. It is alarming to know that we live in a world where the only people who ca not freely express their thoughts about unplanned pregnancy are the ones going through it. This matters because behind the overpowering debates of pro-live vs pro-choice, there are real people, women, their partners, parents and community. One might choose to be a pro-choice with limitations, and a pro-life with exceptions. Have hope for a better world and believe that we can be the agents of change altogether.
