Religion
Religion is not a requirement to build principles and character. You don’t need religion to have morals. If you cannot distinguish right from wrong then you lack empathy and compassion, not religion.
Dalai Lama says, “The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not criticize others.”
The concept of religion and the malpractices done in the name of religion is not unknown to any. Religion is a belief that people with the same mindset, practice. Different groups of people across the globe with different beliefs follow a different religion. It is amongst us for centuries and people firmly believe in it. Christianity is the most practiced religion in the world with more than 2.2 billion believers. Whatever it be, your religion does not account for your actions and the kind of person that you are.
Feminism
“Male ego is the one-stop problem for all solutions”
Feminism is the mere concept that women should have equal rights, opportunities, and status as men. It never caused bloodshed. It never caused any kind of war. In sum, the concept of feminism has never caused anyone any harm, and still, people refuse to be feminists. People fail to understand that being a feminist simply means that you believe in equality irrespective of gender.
However, do they even understand what does it? Not being a feminist means that you believe that men are the superior gender. And men deserve more rights and standards than women. Moreover, it implies you are okay with the discrimination and injustice that happens wiith women.
Feminism is needed because the world follows patriarchy. Whether it is home, workplace, or society, women are somehow suppressed and discriminated against by men in various forms. Besides, this trend has been prevailing in our society for generations
How Religion impacts feminism?
The fact that religion impacts feminism might sound disturbing, but is very much realistic. Some religions firmly believe in the inferiority of women. Furthermore, some religions enforce rules on women and separate them from men. In addition, some vicious minds manipulate these religious beliefs and use them to their benefit. Primarily, to satisfy their fragile and huge male ego.
Many religions practiced worldwide describe, moreover limit the way a woman should be. There are rules for her clothing. There are rules for the way should speak and behave, even look at others. Religions hold women responsible for the way they get treated by men. Furthermore, religion suggests women be dressed and presentable in a way that men don’t find them attractive or get drawn to them. In contrast, there are almost no such rules for men in a similar fashion.
Such religious beliefs and practices deprive women of opportunities more than anyone could even think of. It keeps women from fulfilling their dreams. Furthermore, it limits them. It makes them dependent and does not allow them to live by their rules and choices. Respect and freedom are the most unappreciated and dear feelings to anyone. Such rigid beliefs rip women of their freedom and respect.
A few instances
‘Hinduism’ does not allow widow remarriage but men. On the other hand, can marry again after the death of their wife. Also, ‘Islam’ allows men to marry more than one woman. However, it is offensive if the woman does so.
We are all aware of ‘Triple Talak’. It is a concept where a man can divorce his wife and end their relationship immediately for whatever reasons if he says the word ‘Talak’ thrice. The whole situation of ‘Triple Talak’ came into play because of the injustice men did with women. Men would divorce their wives over anything in any way just by saying the word ‘Talak’ thrice. Furthermore, many cases were witnessed where divorce happened over a phone call or even through texts or letters with the help of ‘Triple Talak’. It would leave women helpless in this harsh world.
Furthermore, the fact that even a high society white lady in the US appreciates two sorts of advantages. She enjoys financial and racial privileges while likewise enduring because of sexual orientation persecution. It justifies that women of every religion and every country across the planet suffer from gender discrimination and are labeled viciously if she raises her opinions or voice.
Conclusion
“If your religion requires you to do wrong to someone in any form, then you need a new religion.”
The main fundament of religion is that people connect to God and find peace within. Religion is ought to spread love, compassion, and equality. However, many religions breed inequality by defining different criteria for men and women. Furthermore, men present and execute such beliefs in a worse manner. The situation would have never come so far if our religions guided us on the right path. Most people follow their religion passionately and strictly. The situation would be better if our religions told us equality and respect.
