From Assam to Gujarat and Tamil Nadu to Himachal Pradesh, every state of India has different cultures and different fashion trends. Though there are differences in attire, one thing that is common in every Indian fashion is elegance. Every attire holds elegance and a colorful look. Additionally, the reason for the great variety in outfits in India is because of the different climates. For instance, there is a huge difference in the climate between Shimla and Goa. In addition to that, the outfits of these two places will be different.

Saree

Saree comes as one of the most common and popular Indian wears. Surprisingly not one or two but there exist more than 30 types of sarees in India. For example, banarasi wedding saree, Sambalpur sarees, Kanjeevaram saree, chikankari saree,  Assam silk saree, and so on. One can wear a saree in more than 80 recorded ways. A saree includes a blouse and an underskirt. One has to drape the saree in the underskirt the way they want to style it. The design of the blouse has changed over time. Nowadays, some western-influenced blouses like off the shoulder and so on. Pick a saree as any formal wear for any occlusion, it never fails to give you a classy yet elegant look.

Salwar suit

Among all other Indian wear, the Salwar suit is one of the most comfortable and classy attires. Meanwhile, a salwar suit includes a salwar, dupatta, and a kameez. The salwar is mainly loose pajama and one wears the kameez in the upper part. With the changing trends in fashion, the evolution in salwar suits can be seen too. Additionally, there are both short and ankle-length Kurtis available to pair with the salwars.

Mekhela chador

The traditional attire of Assam, Mekhela Chador gives you a beautiful and sophisticated look. Unlike saree, Mekhela chador is a two-piece cloth. The mekhela is the lower part of the attire that is worn over the underskirt. The chador on the other hand is the upper portion and one can drape it like the saree. Moreover, there are various types of mekhela chador such as Muga Mekhela Chador, Eri Mekhela Chador, Pat Mekhela Chador, and so on.

Ghagra Choli

Originated from the Mughal era, the Ghagra Choli is one of the most fashionable and favorite picks of Indian women. The Ghagra Choli consists of a long pleated skirt, choli, and a dupatta. One can pick a ghagra choli for all types of desi weddings or functions. However, nowadays a lehenga-skirt pairing with crop tops and button-up shirts is also in trend.

Lancha

Lancha is more like Ghagra choli but there lies some difference. It consists of choli that is longer than waist length. A lancha falls over the lehenga’s waistline. However, just like any other outfit, the modernized style of lancha is getting popular nowadays. Furthermore, it can include a jacket-style top and a skirt without the dupatta. Meanwhile, both the old and modern styles of lancha are great picks for weddings and festivity fashion.

Pheran

The traditional wear of beautiful Jammu and Kashmir is Pheran. A Pheran is made of cotton and wool too. Meanwhile, a pheran consists of two gowns that are worn one over the other. There are different types of pheran. You can wear a pheran of jeans or traditional kameez trousers.

Chaniyo choli

The traditional attire of Gujarat. A Chaniyo choli is a three-piece attire that includes a ghagra, choli, and a head veil. The lower part of the dress is called chaniyo and it is beautifully embedded with glass pieces. The choli goes with the upper part and the veil completes the look.

Beauty in the diversity

India is known for its unique variety and diversity. Each state of this country has its tradition and different fashion styles. Additionally, the clothing in India also depends on the different climates and geography. However, from wedding wear to casual wear the fashion industry of India covers a wide range of clothing.
