The world is as wide as we go out exploring, and also it is a little hub accommodating infinite diversity. This is simply evident in the number of languages spoken across the planet. Every country has a language, an accent, and a dialect of its own. Some Asian countries also have varied languages spoken in the cities and states in their jurisdiction. This increases and signifies the necessity of translators in our lives, who play an active role in making our voices reach millions, in the language that the others can comprehend.
Language is not only just a form of expression or medium but a representation of one’s social, cultural, and ethnic identity they belong to. Multi Linguistic approach is the best way to unite the world, transgressing across nations. This part is played by the translators who provide their service, to make conversations possible between two people from the extreme ends of our planet.
Human Translators or Machine Translators
With the increasing volumes of development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, machines have taken over the job of translation as well. Google translate gets used over a billion times each day only in San Francisco. This has made life easier and communication a lot faster than it was. Yet, it could not be denied that human interpreters and translators are still the best choices in big corporate meetings, institutions, government agencies barring personal use.
The biggest advantage of human interpreters is that they understand the message behind the words and translate them with the essence in which it was meant to be conveyed. While machine translation just does word-to-word conversions, often leading to misinformation. The credibility of the AI-based translation is quite low at present, though it might improve with time.
Translators connect the society as a whole
It is a job that is being paid for. Yet, helping someone to make someone’s stance clear in the language they do not know requires equal amounts of integrity and honesty. Thus, making the job a needed service. All global organizations, including the UN, need translators to ease their function as a global security body. World leaders require translators while they tour the world for work purposes, and these become the backbone in creating and maintaining good relationships with foreign countries.
Being a polyglot isn’t an easy task and requires immense levels of patience to grasp all the languages really well to be fluent. Also, translators are known for their ability to listen carefully and patiently, which is a rare quality to find in the contemporary world. The role that these service providers play in our lives is often disregarded and over-looked. But, it is time that we realize that transactions and translators deserve respect and a socially honored place for the work they do.
