1586- England gets introduced potatoes to from Colombia
Sir Thomas Herriot was an English astronomer and scientist. Apart from many discoveries, he became well-known for introducing England to the potatoes from Columbia on December 3, 1586. Potatoes helped shape the England’s destiny. It became the backbone of national dishes. Therefore being served in hundreds of different variety of dishes. Domestic use of potatoes date as early as around 8000 and 5000 BC, in the modern-day region of Peru. While in America, it began cultivated around then thousand years ago. Therefore, in the late sixteen century it reached in England. And ever since, potato has served as a staple crop in many regions.
1689- First recorded successful separation of conjoined twins
Born on November 24, 1689, the conjoined twin sisters Elisabet and Catherina underwent a separation surgery. Swiss surgeon Johannes Fatio, carried out this surgery in Basel, Switzerland. The surgery started on the night of December 2 and completed on December 3. Therefore, the surgery ended successful as both the girls recovered completely from the surgery. Hence it marked the history as it became the first successful separation surgery of conjoined twins.

1775 First official Grand Union Flag raised aboard naval vessel USS Alfred
The Grand Union Flag has thirteen red and white alternate stripes with British Union Jack in the upper left corner. Lieutenant, John Paul Jones raised it on December 3, 1775, on the US Navy’s first flagship, the USS Alfred. A Philadelphia seamstress, Margaret Manny, has said to make the flag. While George Washington designed the flag.
1910 Neon lights first publicly displayed
Georges Claude invented the neon lights. Therefore, displaying them in Paris on December 3, 1910, on the stage of Paris Motor Show. This show presents the world with one of he greatest motor vehicles of the world. This invention gave Claude the nickname of “Edison of Paris”. After this show, Paris came to be known as “The city of Lights”. Also, after this invention Paris became the first city to adopt gas street lighting. Claude received the patent for his invention in 1910 only. Later on, he went and made modifications to his own lamp. Therefore with different gases, you can produce different colors. When Claude introduced his invention in the US market in 1923, he had the monopoly for next decade. His lamps became to eye-catching that it earned the nickname of “the liquid fir”.

1967 1st human heart transplant performed in South Africa
Surgeon Christiaan Barnard, a surgeon from University of Cape Town and trained in the USA, performed the first heart transplant in South Africa. A grocer, Louis Washkansky, at the age of fifty-three, suffered chronic heart diseases. He also suffered from diabetes and was a chain smoker. A young white woman, Denise Darvall, met with a terrible car accident. Which left her with a massive head injury leaving her brain-dead. Her heart was used in the surgery. However, this became the first successful heart transplant in South Africa on December 3, 1967.
