Myths and fantasies have a way of traveling along like the word of mouth. Most of our Halloween costumes are based on concepts and myths of the past. That is why we see children and teens dress up as vampires, or werewolves, or even witches. Quite a lot of movies and tv shows have also been directed to portray the new dimension of mythical creatures. And adding the magical aspect to such myths just makes the cherry on top. Starring actors are Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is one of the most successful supernatural tv series to have ever aired.
“The first rule of truly living – do the things you are most afraid of .” – Rebekah Mikelson
‘The Vampire Diaries’ is one of the most accepted magical and supernatural series. So much so that two spin-offs have come out after this series.
The 171 years old diaries
“Don’t underestimate the allure of darkness. Even the purest hearts are drawn to it.” – Klaus Mickaelson
Stephan Salvators’s diaries cover all events from the 19th century onwards. Well, to be more precise, events of his life and the ones close to him. The humans did not last long because, well they were humans. Stephan on the other hand is a Vampire. Turned by his second love Katherine Pierce alias Katerina Petrova. But that is not the only thing ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is about. It is a neatly woven piece of magic and love.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ is a story about friendship, love, priorities, loss, hope, and life. Each problem the protagonists face is definitely different from what we humans face in real life. But the point that is put forward is that each problem that karma throws at you is a test of your true abilities. Once you master yourself, you do not need to feel alone or abandoned. That is because, in that process, you end up finding your real friends, true love, and real happiness.
Creating Mystic Falls
“Anybody capable of love is capable of being saved.” – Caroline Forbes
Julie Plec and Kevil Williamson along with directors Chris Grismer, John Behrin, John Dahl, and J Miller Tobin have managed to create a series with deadly creatures with who we all fall in love. Ironic is it not? On one hand, they created a supernatural, horror, and thriller series. On the other, all the characters have a strong sense of human emotions, heightened at times.
This eight-season series aired on September 10, 2009. Since then it has won several teen choice awards, people’s choice awards, and Saturn awards. But what made the series so great? It is the plot and the love triangle between three lead protagonists; Elenga Gilbert, Stephan Salvatore, and Damon Salvatore. Two vampires and a human. Boy the tension! ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has stirred the hearts of millions!
The Series Where Katherine Never leaves
“Hope is a b*tch.” – Damon Salvatore
The story starts with the death of Elena’s parents. She is just learning to navigate through normalcy with the help of her aunt, brother, and best friend. When enters Stephan her life. Elena feels an instant connection to him but does not understand why. Just as the romance starts to bud between these two, comes Stephans brother, who is also a vampire; Damon Salvatore. Know for his viciousness, evilness, and snarkiness, Damon Salvatore instantly falls for Elena Gilbert but keeps it to himself. In order to protect her interests and also to not break his brother’s heart.
While this story is going on, enters Katherine Peirce, the girl who never stops running. This may sound as if she is in distress. Actually, she just runs away from love. And is also the biggest, baddest vampire in town! Whenever she is around, she creates a mess out of everyone’s lives. Through no fault of hers, all the strongest and oldest vampires, werewolves, and witches keep coming to the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The protagonists including Bonnie Bennet, Caroline Forbes, Alaric Saltzman, Lorenzo St.John, Matt Donavan, and all the other characters have grown and evolved into their true selves while tackling the same newcomers. We see how each one matures over the course of their lives from the moment they are introduced to the supernatural course.
In each season of the show, we see specific incidents that each character faces. Be it a family problem, a regular teenage problem. Or even the world is ending problem. What each one holds on to is the love they have for each other. This portrays of love caused almost four million teenagers to get hooked to the series.
That is because firstly, this series is based on the lives of teenagers. So connecting to that lifestyle is the easiest. Secondly, the acceptance of the fact that even young ones can fall in love became a selling point. The biggest take away from this 171 episode series is that you are worthy of love! And that you must never give up on it.
Damons eye roll
“There is no such thing as bad ideas. Just poorly executed awesome ideas.” – Damon Salvatore
A lot of critics at first thought that the series included too many unnecessary supernaturals. Along with that it also included many drinking game catchphrases. The critics did complain at first. But since these fell into the storyline perfectly, there were no more complaints.
