Christopher Columbus sights Cuba and claims it for Spain under the name “Juana”
Christopher Columbus along with his crew set in the bay of Bariay. It was on this day the history of Cuba began. Initially, Cuba was known as Juana by Columbus. He named it after the daughter of a Spanish catholic who financed this voyage. After 20 years of the slave trade had ended, it was still being continued in Cuba. In 1902, Cuba officially became independent.
The first university in the New World, the Universidad Santo Tomás de Aquino, is established on Hispaniola
Papa bull founded The Universidad de Santo Tomás de Aquino in 1538 in the Dominican Republic. Presently, it is called (Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo) (UASD). Before its conversion into a full university, the institution had been a Stadium Generate (seminary), founded in 1518 and operated by the Dominican Order. The university was closed in 1801 but later reopened in 1815.

It was designed by French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, It is a 151-foot statue of a woman holding a torch in an uplifted arm. In 1892, Ellis Island was opened as an entry to visualize the statue of liberty. In 32 years, more than 11 million people came to admire Lady Liberty.
President Bill Clinton signs the Digital Millennium Copyright Act into law
The DMCA came in 1998. It implements two 2996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It penalizes and restricts the production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures that control access to copyrighted works (commonly known as digital rights management or DRM). This act was adopted in the Electronic Commerce Directive by the European Union.
Congress enforces the Prohibition Of alcohol.
Congress passed the Volstead Act which provides enforcement for the 18th amendment to the U.S. constitution. This movement was done for the prohibition of alcohol. In 1917, it prohibited the manufacturing, selling, and transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverages. In 1919, this amendment received the necessary votes and prohibition came into force. Despite enforcing the law, the Volstead act failed. In 1933, the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed and ratified, repealing prohibition.
