History is a cause of celebration and reflection. It is a source of inspiration. There have been uncountable inventions, innovations, treaties, and other significant events in the past and all of them have something to teach us, to inspire us to keep going, and not to stop even if we fail. 1847: Formation of AMA
Nathan Smith Davis formed the American Medical Association in Philadelphia as a national professional medical organization. As well as, the aim of the organization was to improve public health and advance scientific research and improve medical education standards. It was founded by 250 delegates representing more than 40 medical societies and 28 colleges. However, in the early 21st century the AMA had about 240,000 members. And, its headquarters are in Chicago.
1864: The Battle of the Wilderness ends
This battle was from May 1864 to 7 May 1864 with heavy losses of both sides. The Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant’s 1864 Virginia Overland Campaign, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. The name got the appellation from the region itself which was a tangled wild forest.
1939: Germany – Italy Alliance:
On this day, Germany and Italy announced an alliance known as the Rome-Berlin Axis. On May 22, 1939, Germany and Italy signed the so-called Pact of Steel, formalizing the Axis alliance with military provisions. Also, the pact was initially drafted as a tripartite military alliance between Japan, Italy, and Germany. The Axis powers are also known as the “Rome–Berlin–Tokyo Axis were the nations that fought in World War II against the Allies. And they agreed on their opposition to the Allies but did not completely coordinate their activity. And, the Axis grew out of the diplomatic efforts of Germany, Italy, and Japan.
1945: Germany surrenders in WW II
Germany signs an unconditional surrender to the Allies, effectively ending World War II in Europe. However, it included the phrase “All forces under German control to cease active operations at 2301 hours Central European Time on May 8, 1945.”
