This is the first year when the nominations are announced virtually, to maintain safety during the pandemic. Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P Henson hosted the nomination ceremony on Feb 3, 2021.
Of course, Netflix led in both television and film nominations. In the motion picture category, The drama “Mank,” received the highest nominations– six. ” The Trial of the Chicago 7″ bagged second place of highest nominations in the motion picture category with five nominations.

Mank is a biographical film that portrays the life of screenwriter Herman J Mankiewicz as he struggles with alcoholism and his unfinished script of Citizen Kane.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 is an American docudrama. The film dramatized the famous Chicago Seven Trial that took place after bloody riots in the city of Chicago, following an anti-Vietnam War protest. On the other hand, in the television categories, the expensive yet phenomenal royal drama “The Crown” led with six nominations, followed by the beloved sitcom, “Schitt’s Creek,” with five.
The Crown revolves around the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding in 1947 to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to the early 21st century. It reveals the ups and downs of the Royal Family, the romances and betrayals, and all that’s in between. There is special crafting to this series, as all seems to fit in place naturally, while still creating a true piece of art.
Generally based on one line idea of a rich family getting broke. And, finally having to live in a sad place called Schitt’s Creek. The Canadian-comedy produced by co-creators Eugene and Dan Levy has aged like a fine wine and has gotten bigger with age. Being a darling comedy with record-breaking nine awards at the Emmy Awards, Schitt’s Creek gets five nods for the golden globe.

Stunned by “Emily in Paris” for nominations over “I May Destroy You“:
Emily in Paris had all of us obsessed in October. With cute friendships, romance, beautiful city, and fashion, this rom-com has it all. Lily Collins plays the titular role of charming Emily. But does it deserve a golden globe nomination over others? This discussion has hit storms over social media.
I may destroy you explores consent in modern dating through the story of Arabella who is sexually assaulted on a night out. It is compelling and a laugh-out-loud story about bodily autonomy and mental health. Michaela Coel’s unconventional “I May Destroy You” did not receive any recognition at this year’s Golden Globes.
The highlight of the nominations includes three women nominations for the best director category. Golden Globe Awards nominated Regina King for “One Night in Miami,” Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland” and Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman.” This is the first time more than one woman has bagged nominations for the Golden Globes best director category.
Chadwick Boseman who had a battle with colon cancer and passed away on August 28, 2020, received a posthumous nomination for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
Anya Taylor– Joy, the lead actress of Emma and The Queen’s Gambit bags a nomination in the film and the television category for her performance. Anya Taylor-Joy, Olivia Colman, and Sacha Baron Cohen soon to potentially join a group of having scored double golden globe awards in the same year.
Director, Regina King’s first feature film showcases the brilliant Kingsley Ben-Adir as a charismatic, heartbreaking Malcolm X, the splendid Eli Goree as The Cassius Clay, Leslie Odom, Jr. as a transitional, complex Sam Cooke, and Idris Hodge as a solid contained, introspective Jim Brown. The acting is beyond good. These four gentlemen have an artifact that in twenty years will yet stand as the best performance in their repertoire.
